Christmas Gifts That Will Have Your Player Ready for 2023

This is not a post about the trendy bats, gloves and gear available for 2023. Yes, there are a lot of cool things out for next year and if you need any help picking out the perfect, tangible gift, contact my friends Roy and Max at Closeoutbats.com (they ship nationwide).

This is about the other gifts, often overlooked, that will set your player up for a successful 2023 and beyond. Consider putting these things under your tree this Christmas in addition to a new glove:

  • Private Lessons. Lessons offer your player specific instruction, on the areas they need most, in a low stress environment. Lessons help build consistency, a strong work ethic and can be a literal game changer for players of all ages. If you’re local to the NYC metropolitan area and are in need of some suggestions, email me at dirtonmydiamonds@gmail.com and I’ll help connect you with some great instructors in our area. If you’re not local to NYC I strongly encourage you to join a local Facebook group and start the conversation on trainers who are recommended in your area. The Facebook baseball mom community is very strong!

  • Off-Season Velocity Program. And I’m NOT just talking about pitchers. All position players can benefit from a legitimate velocity program during the winter. Arm strength and arm health is important at every position.

  • Strength Training & Speed/Agility Programs. This really should be a year-round commitment on your end. I speak from experience when I say the skinny teenage boys need a consistent training plan to help properly build muscle, flexibility and speed. Plus, if your child has aspirations of playing in college, they may as well get used to a year-round training program now.

  • Hiring a College Recruiter. The collegiate landscape is constantly changing and having a trusted recruiter in your corner to help you navigate the process is definitely worth the investment. Having someone who can guide you on how to approach college coaches, advise you on appropriate showcases and camps, someone with established relationships…it’s a win. Need a recruiter? • Yearly Membership on a Recruiting Platform. You’re going to need a place to highlight all your videos and stats from tournaments and showcases. College coaches use these platforms to search and connect with players. It’s how my son got connected to the school he ultimately committed to. During the Covid lockdown, for that matter. Trust me - they use these platforms to find players. There are a few of them out there - email me at dirtonmydiamonds@gmail.com and I’ll give you some more insight, based on my personal experiences.

Playing Santa is fun - why not make it impactful as well!
